Zali Steggall quits ski career

After 22 years on skis, 27-year-old Zali Stegall from Australia announced the end of her career as a professional racer in a press conference during the Olympic Games of Salt Lake City.

No more races after the Olympic slalom:
The slalom competition of the Winter Games was her last race. About why she announced her decision before her last race she said: “The slalom race will be even more special to me as it will be my last and I really wanted to share that with everyone. I have always received such fantastic support from sports lovers in Australia and all around the world so I wanted to share this too.”

"Not an easy thing to decide":
Zali found it very hard living on her own in Europe for months, and now believes that she has given her all to skiing. Her thinking about the decision was very emotional, as she said, but after announcing it to the public, she felt relieved and great.
